Noël avant l’heure/ Early Christmas gifts

 

Mon mari est parti quelques jours en Angleterre pour voir sa famille avant les fêtes.  A son retour il m’a rapporté une petite surprise que lui avait confiée mon adorable belle-mère : un sac de « goodies » sur le thème du hibou car c’est mon oiseau préféré et aussi pour me taquiner. En effet, quand je suis arrivée en Grande-Bretagne j’ai eu longtemps du mal à prononcer le mot « chouette » correctement, je disais « ool » au lieu de « owl », ma belle-famille trouvait ça drôle !  J’adore ! Les anglais ont toujours des idées super originales pour les cadeaux de Noël. J’aime tout et en particulier la grosse montre doré très kitsh. Je n’ai rien contre l’hiver mais j’ai malheureusement toujours les lèvres gercées et les mains sèches, ce qui est particulièrement désagréable, le kit de Vaseline dans son bel étui et les produits pour les mains tombent donc à pic ! Le marque-page est fort pratique car je lis beaucoup (le jeu de mot m’a bien fait sourire). La jolie décoration ira sur la poignée de notre nouvelle armoire blanche (notre prochain achat coûteux !). Je remercie du fond du cœur ma belle-mère pour ces présents ! J’ai été gâtée! Quand dites-vous?

 

My husband went back to England for a few days to visit his family before the end-of-year celebrations. When he returned, he had brought back a little surprise that my lovely mother-in-law had prepared for me; a bag of owl themed goodies. Indeed, it is my favourite bird and I guess she also wanted to poke fun at my accent. While living in England, I struggled, for a while, to pronounce the word “owl”. I would say “ool” instead, and my husband’s family thought it was quite funny! I love the presents! The English have always had great gifts ideas for Christmas. I love everything in that bag, particularly that big  bold golden watch. While I normally have nothing against winter, sometimes, most unfortunately, my lips and hands become dry in the cold, and often, arid weather. As such the Vaseline kit in its beautiful case and the hands products are particularly nice, allowing me to carry my lip balm with class. The bookmark is really practical as I read a lot, it has already taken residence in a book I’m currently reading (the pun made me chuckle). The pretty decoration will be hanged on the door handle of our future white wardrobe (our next big purchase!). Thanks to my great mother-in-law for these amazing presents! I feel spoiled!
